Why Do We Suffer During Hay Season?

Most people ask why do we suffer during hay season. Well the simplest explanation we know of is when the seasons change there is an increase in pollen.

Research that has recently been done is stating that there are only certain plants that are contributing to allergies. These usually occur; during spring and summer.

Ongoing research on hay fever and allergies continue and thay want to determine exactly what causes these reactions. What is known is that trees, grasses and other plant life are a contribution to hay fever. But there are other underlying factors still not understood by researchers.

Through research it will be determined exactly which pollens and fragrances are the cause of allergies causing episodes of hayfever. Trials are being run whereby people have volunteered to be exposed to air samples taken from different sources. The patients will be monitored to see what type of reactions thay have and from what sample.

Not all people are alike; some people might not react to pollen and dust; and others will have severe reactions which cause dramatic changes in the body; like itchy eyes, sneezing and coughing. Statistics show that around 50% of people suffer from season hay fever; and some have this disorder permanently.

There is no specified age for hay fever, from a new born baby to old age can be affected. It has been found that early childhood is more prevalent and the condition either gets better over time or worsens with time.

Your immune system should fight off bacteria and viruses; when a foreign substance enters the body the immune system will release antibodies and destroy this foreign substance. But in the case of allergies and hay fever the body recognizes these substances as dangerous and will release allergens. This reaction; from the body usually causes the symptoms of hay fever.

Some of the plant material thought to cause hay-fever is dock, plantain, sage, and the acacia species. People living on farms and in a bushy terrain are inclined to suffer from sever hay fever; due to having numerous animals which lose their coats; as well as the dust factor.
