Getting Out From Under Your Allergy's Thumb

Did you know that bee pollen and asthma are not necessarily mutually exclusive topics? In fact, they may be more closely related than most people realize for there is actually a way to treat asthma through the use of bee pollen. That's right, not only can you take bee pollen for hay fever, but asthma symptoms can be treated by taking regular doses of this natural product as well.

A Little About Asthma

If you suffer from asthma you will know how miserable you can be, especially when your asthma symptoms are triggered. But what is it that triggers asthma symptoms? In most asthma cases the symptoms are triggered by an allergen or a combination of allergens that lead to the lungs closing up and the inability to expel the breath that is already within the lungs.

It is specifically due to the concept of allergen-triggered asthma that the concept of using bee pollen, also known as bee bread, to counter the symptoms of asthma is such a revolutionary one.

How Bee Pollen can Help

It may sound silly to suggest that a person take bee bread to counter the effects of allergies, but it has been proven that by taking pollen on a regular basis you can reduce if not altogether eliminate your reaction to certain allergens.

It's quite simple really. In order to get the full benefit of bee pollen as it regards asthma and allergies, you simply have to adapt yourself to using it much as you would if you take allergy shots as a form of immunotherapy to help build your tolerance to those things you are allergic to.

Being that bee bread granules contain the collected pollen of a great number of plants, by taking it on a regular basis you build up immunity to the pollens and can therefore reduce your allergy symptoms and can significantly decrease your bouts of allergy-induced asthma.

How to Treat Allergies with Bee Pollen

If you begin taking bee bread regularly at least 2-3 months before your main allergy season you will see a significant decrease in your allergy (and hence your asthma) symptoms. But don't just start in taking a full dose of it every day!

In order to get the maximum effects of this product in your diet you will need to be taking bee bread regularly for at least 2-3 months in order to see results, but in order to ensure that you will not have any unanticipated allergic reactions to the Bee bread if you've never taken this product before you are going to want to start at least a month earlier.

The key, of course, is to start small, just one granule the first day. If you tuck it under your tongue and it dissolves and you have no reaction, then the next day you can add another granule, building up until you are ingesting approximately 1 Tbs. full of granules.

The reason you are going to want to start slowly is because there is always the chance that you will be allergic or simply just sensitive to bee pollen. Not everyone is, but if you already suffer from allergies and/or asthma you may be sensitive to it, so it is always a good idea to check.

Once you have determined that you are not allergic or sensitive to bee pollen you can add it as a regular part of your diet and you can start reaping the rewards of less allergy and asthma symptoms.

Relief From Mold and Mildew Allergies - Can Air Purifiers Help?

I used to start sneezing, sniffling and asthma from mold and mildew exposure (although my allergies also included dust, pollen, and pets). Shots at the allergist and medications were a weekly routine. I began to experiment with air purifiers and air cleaners of all kinds at age 11. When allergic to mold you'll try anything for relief.

Thirty years of experience has given me a lot of experience with air purifiers and mold problems. The following represent the primary types of air purification, with a quick rating on their effectiveness for mold and mildew allergies.

Electrostatic Plates

An electrostatic machine is basically a machine with positive and negatively charged plates. Oreck may call these plates "Truman Cell" (maybe it stands for Harry Truman??) but they're most often called "ionic" or "electrostatic". Works for pollution since carbon from car exhaust is charged, and they are washable but since most pollen and dust carries little charge however they are not effective for pollen or dust or mold FOR MOLD & MILDEW ALLERGIES: RATED POOR

HEPA Filters

The 1st choice for allergies like pollen and dust HEPA traps and holds pollen and dust. Allergists recommend it most. The downside = you have to replace it every year or so. It will remove mold spores to reduce the spread of mold but will not kill mold or mildew. If you include HEPA find affordable replacement filters as some companies can soak you after you own their Hepa air purifier. Avoid the expensive air purifiers like IQAIR ($and Austin Air which are primarily HEPA and forget about them for mold & mildew. They're over-priced for a HEPA filter, and even though they are well made you can find better mold air purifiers for less than $300. MOLD & MILDEW ALLERGIES: RATED FAIR (removes mold spores only)

Ozone Producing Air Purifier Machines

Ozone, which is isimply Oxygen with an added particle of oxygen (o3), works for odor, mold, and mildew, but is not good for gathering pollen and dust. Too much ozone will irritate the lungs, especially in asthmatics. Ozone machines did little for allergies. Today's primary Ozone brand is Ecoquest (formerly Alpine). MOLD & MILDEW ALLERGIES: RATED EXCELLENT FOR MOLD AND MILDEW REMOVAL, BUT DANGEROUS TO LUNGS.

Ionizers Air Purifiers

Ionizers put negative ions into the air. Will kill some forms of mildew, pollution, and odor, but not very good for pollen or dust since there is nothing to collect the pollen in the air. MOLD & MILDEW ALLERGIES: RATED FAIR

Carbon and/or Zeolite

Primarily for smoke, chemicals, odors and fumes since these organic minerals absorb and trap gases. Not effective in any way for mold or mildew. But they do not trap dust and pollen. MOLD & MILDEW ALLERGIES: RATED POOR

Ultraviolet (UV) Air Purifiers

UV (ultraviolet light) and Tio2 ( Titanium dioxide - nanotechnology) are used by hospitals and dentists because they kill bacteria, germs, and mold/mildew. UV light has a frequency which kills micro-organisms and hence is effective for mold, while Tio2 magnifies UV light up to 1000 times MOLD & MILDEW ALLERGIES: RATED EXCELLENT AND SAFE.

So: Should You Buy A "UV ONLY" AIR PURIFIER?

I would avoid UV only air purifiers and get a combination of UV, Tio2, HEPA and Ion. That's because you can find many air purifiers for $200-300 using a combination of these technologies to do an effective job on mold and mildew, plus clean the air completely.

Allergies - Forms and Treatment

It is estimated that about fifty million Americans are allergic to one or more things. Our body's immune system produces antibodies when it mistakes any harmless substance or allergen as an intruder. These antibodies are produced to defend the body against the substances mistakenly regarded as offenders. The cells around the affected areas also produce histamine and other chemicals. The release of histamine can result to sneezing, hives, itchiness and other known allergic reactions. These allergic reactions usually appear in areas of the body where the allergen comes to.

Among the most common types of allergies are food allergies, allergic rhinitis, allergic asthma and allergic contact dermatitis. Each of these types has its own specific symptoms and probable form of treatment.

It is estimated that about 100 Americans are killed each year due to food allergies. Studies show that only 1 to 2 percent of all adults with allergies are suffering from true food allergies. The most common food allergens are milk, eggs, fish, peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, almonds and cashew. It is estimated that about 3 million Americans are allergic to peanuts and tree nuts - the number one causes of food allergy deaths. People suffering from food allergies may experience swelling and tingling of the lips. There may be itchiness, hives or rashes occurring in any part of the body. Additionally, those suffering from food allergies may also feel bloating, abdominal cramps, gas, diarrhea and vomiting.

In severe cases, food allergies can be life threatening. Fortunately, this is rarely the case. If you have known food allergies, the best treatment is to avoid the offending food sources. Otherwise, antihistamines may be administered for mild reactions. Corticosteroid creams may be used to treat skin rashes. For life-threatening reactions, an injectable epinephrine such as EpiPen may save your life. Allergy shots can also be administered especially if drugs don't work, or if you are unable to avoid the allergens.

Allergic rhinitis is a form of allergy which affects one in seven Americans. This form of allergy may occur during a specific season as in hay fever. This can also be perennial, meaning it can be a whole year round condition. Both types however, exhibit similar symptoms. Hay fever is commonly caused by pollen from trees (usually during the spring season), grasses and ragweed. On the other hand, perennial allergies are triggered by indoor allergens like dust mites, feathers, mold spores and pet dander. The most common symptoms of allergic rhinitis are itchiness, watery eyes, sneezing, sore throat and stuffy nose. Allergic rhinitis is commonly treated with antihistamines, decongestants and inflammatory sprays.

Allergic asthma is perceived to be a potentially hazardous disease. Once a person with allergic asthma is exposed to offending allergens, breathing difficulty may commence. This is often elicited by allergens such as pollen, spores, mold, feathers, pet dander and cockroach droppings. Allergic asthma is characterized by coughing, wheezing, tightness of the chest and shortness of breath. Bronchodilators are the treatment of choice during allergic asthma attacks. These function to widen the patient's airways and cease sudden attacks.

Skin contact with allergens like poison ivy, skin care products, jewelries and a person's saliva can trigger allergic contact dermatitis. Common symptoms are itchy, dry, red skin patches with blisters. Corticosteriod creams are used to treat the mild forms of contact dermatitis. Oral corticosteroids may be administered for severe cases.

Finally, allergies affect both children and adults. It is observed that adults hardly ever outgrow their allergies completely. However, the symptoms may become lesser and less severe with time. Others also develop allergies as they grow older. The best defense against allergies is through avoidance of the known allergens.

Take Charge - Treat Runny Nose, Cough, and Watery Eyes the Right Way!

I had a young couple come to the pharmacy the other day. The man looked miserable - with itchy, puffy, watery eyes, stuffy nose and a horrible cough. His girlfriend came to the pharmacy and said, "My boyfriend is sick and has been a baby about it and snoring at night! What can I give him?"

All of his symptoms were caused by histamines (which are released when we have a cold or allergies). Histamine can also cause hives (itchy, red, raised bumpy rash). So, we treat them by taking an ANTIhistamine. The antihistamine neutralizes some or all of the histamines so that our symptoms are lessened. Antihistamines come in many forms -oral, topical, nasal spray and eye drops.

These oral antihistamines can help with cold/allergy symptoms and hives...

The following are available OTC:

1. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) -Best for rashes and to take at bedtime if the patient can't sleep due to cold/allergy symptoms (it will help symptoms and cause drowsiness).

2. Dimetapp allergy (brompheniramine)

3. Chlor-Trimeton (chlorpheniramine)

4. Tavist (clemastine) The above antihistamines work well but can cause a lot of sedation for most people (although some young kids may become hyperactive). It has been estimated that up to 90% of the Benadryl sold is used as a sleeping aid.

Helpful hint: Diphenhydramine (the active ingredient in Benadryl) is used in most OTC sleeping pills and can be used to treat motion sickness.

5. Claritin and Alavert (loratadine)

6. Zyrtec (cetirizine) The two above do not usually cause drowsiness. They are available in generics, combo products with pseudophedrine (decongestants) and come in formulations for kids 2 years old to adult.

The following antihistamines are available with a prescription...

7. Xyzal (levocetirizine) -Great for rashes and itchy skin due to allergies. It often causes drowsiness.

8. Allegra (fexofenadine) -Option for those that an OTC antihistamines does not work or causes too much drowsiness. It is available in a generic!

9. Clarinex (desloratadine) -It does not come in a generic and hasn't really been proven to help more than the generic OTC Claritin.

If you have questions about how to treat other symptoms from allergies/cold, come check out this other article.

Although all the drugs are antihistamines they work differently for each person. You may need to try out a few to see which one works for you.

Oral antihistamines are also used to treat acid reflux, motion sickness and dizziness...but that is a story for a different time.

How To Shave (With A Cut Throat Razor)

So I've had my straight edge - or cut-throat - razor for over a year now and I'd like to share what I've learnt.

I bought my first straight edge razor because it seemed like a good idea. Plus I've always liked that scene in "A fistful of dollars" where Clint is getting a shave and shots all the baddies. Basically I wanted to be Clint Eastwood. Without the orang-utan.

The shaving industry is all about getting men to use over priced, multi-bladed disposable plastic items and a bewildering array of chemical sludges (read the ingredients next time you shave) for something that should be about:

Soap, Water, Sharp Thing.

This is mainly aimed at my various brothers who I've given cut throats to for birthdays.

Equipment:

  • Have a good, sharp razor. Make sure the blade is free of nicks and is sharp. If the blade has any nicks or rust on the edge, bin it.

  • Own a proper shaving brush and shaving cream. Do not buy anything that resembles squirty cheese in a can. Quite apart from the fact that is uses stupid amounts of non-recoverable resources to produce the chemical slime that many men seem happy to smear on their faces, it doesn't work very well. Shaving foam should be of sufficient thickness, and needs to be worked into the beard with a good brush in order to pack around the bristles to make them stand out ready for the chop! Squirty Gillette man power foam will not do it. Remember Beckham has a lackey to shave him.

  • Leather strop - and know how to use it. Before shaving the razor should be stropped.
Pull the strop tight. Place the blade flat against the bottom of the strop and drag it diagonally up (with the blade edge trailing), without pushing down to hard. At the top of the strop, flip the blade and drag down in the same manner. Repeat about 12 times.

Preparation:

  • Best to shave after a shower or bath, as a good soaking softens the beard.

  • Wet face with warm water, and work in shaving soap with the brush.

  • Strop razor

Notes: Water should not be too hot, as this will dry out the shaving cream on your face to quickly. If the cream on you face starts to dry out (the last bit you shave may well do) re-apply with the brush.

Most shaving cuts occur for two reasons.

1 - wrong angle. The blade should be at about 30° to the face. To steep an angle and the blade will just go in to your face. To slight and it will not cut.

2 - Skin too slack. Your should always try to pull the skin taught just behind the passage of the blade.

  • Open the razor so that the blade is 270° to the handle. I.E. open it and keep opening it.

  • Hold the razor securely by placing the pads of your index and second fingers on the shank, your thumb under the shank and against the shoulder, the handle raised vertically between your middle and ring fingers, and your ring and little fingers resting inside the crescent-shaped tang.

  • The first stroke should be your left cheek. Start from the top and, stretching the skin taught, shave against the direction of hair growth.

  • Basically get this right and the rest will follow. My best advice is start with the easy bits - cheeks - and over the next few days expand your area of 'comfort'.
The most difficult bit for me is my chin. I have read that it's best to shave left to right, but I tend towards shaving from under my bottom lip down towards my chin. Then tackle the difficult jaw line by pulling the skiing down so that the bit I want to shave isn't on the edge.

  • The top lip is meant to be hard - you have to increase the angle of the blade to around 50°, but I find it not so bad.

  • Finally, you can go over a second time, after applying either water or more cream, against the hair growth. I normally don't bother these days, as the first cur normally OK, plus the second pass can cause irritation.

  • Rinse your face with cold water, allow to dry naturally or dab with a towel and then apply some moisturiser.

After care:

  • Always clean and dry your razor, and store in a dry place. Any water on it will rust it (if it is steel). Rinse your brush.

  • Any cuts shouldn't bleed to much, the water will stop them. Straight edge razor cuts don't bleed as much as safety razor cuts.

And that's it. I can honestly say that, having always hated shaving, I now look forward to shaving every other day.

Yes, it takes longer; but it is such a great way to start the day - a real ritual. I especially like going camping and making a point of getting a good shave with a small mirror and a billy can.

The other huge bonus is that you will never need to buy a new razor. Disposables cost a fortune these day, whereas a quality second hand straight edge razor (mine is over 50years old) can be found on eBay for £10 - and it will last for ever.

Oral Allergy Syndrome - When Hayfever Starts Dictating Your Menu

During the spring and summer, some of the fruits and vegetables that you've been missing all winter long appear in carefully stacked mountains at the local grocer. Did you know that hose sweet, soft peaches that you smothered in vanilla ice cream may surprise you with the effects they have on your hayfever? After eating certain fruits, vegetables, nuts or spices, you may have noticed:

  • A tingling sensation in the lips or tongue

  • Itching in the tongue, mouth and throat

  • Burning sensation in the lips, tongue mouth and throat

  • Watery, itchy eyes

  • Sneezing and runny nose

  • Swelling or rash on lips, tongue and mouth

Oral Allergy Syndrome is not the same as a true food allergy-- it is your existing pollen allergies reacting to proteins in particular fresh foods.

If you know that you have hay fever and have answered a definitive "yes" to any of the above symptoms, than you may have Oral Allergy Syndrome. Your body isn't actually allergic to the food, but is reacting because of preexisting pollen sensitivities. If your food-related symptoms are at their worst during the early spring and late summer, then you most like have Oral Allergy Syndrome.

Who is affected?

Individuals who suffer with allergies to certain plants and trees, including: alder trees, birch trees, grass, mugwort weeds and ragweed.

Foods that commonly cause cross-allergic reactions:

  • If you have a sensitivity to alder pollen: almonds apples celery cherries hazel nuts peaches pears parsley

  • If you have a sensitivity to birch pollen: almonds apples apricots carrots celery cherries coriander fennel kiwi nectarines parsley parsnips peaches pears peppers plums potatoes prunes Potential: hazel nuts, and walnuts

  • If you have a sensitivity to mugwort pollen:
  • carrots celery coriander fennel parsley peppers sunflower

  • If you have a sensitivity to ragweed pollen: banana cantaloupe cucumber honey dew watermelon zucchini Potential: Dandelions or chamomile tea

The same intolerance that your body has for inhaled pollens, may also be applied to these lists of foods.

Is there a way to treat Oral Allergy Syndrome?

  1. Peeling fruits and vegetables often eliminates the allergic reaction

  2. Canned, cooked or processed foods usually do not cause reactions-only fresh foods trigger allergies

  3. Fruit that is freshly picked or still partially unripe is less likely to cause reactions

  4. Stop eating food if you notice a tingling sensation around or in your mouth

  5. Be aware that you may develop allergic tendencies towards other items on the lists over time-always be on the alert when eating foods on these lists

  6. Microwaving food briefly to a temperature of 176-194 F degrees may allow you to eat it-- heat basically de-activates the allergen-mimicking proteins

  7. Nuts on the lists should be completely avoided-no matter whether they are cooked or not

  8. Immunotherapy (i.e. allergy shots) usually will greatly improve or even eliminate Oral Allergy Syndrome

For a list of fruits and vegetables that won't trigger your Oral Allergy Syndrome, check out wikipedia's entry for this topic.

Allergy Medications

There is usually no cure for allergies. However there are different types of medicines that you can use to help with the problem. There are both over the counter and prescription medications that a person can turn to for help. The different medications will include antihistamines, decongestants, combination medicines, corticosteroids and many others. Some allergy medications are going to work better than others do for certain people.

There are allergy shots that are going to help increase your ability to tolerate allergens and other problems that are caused by an allergy. Sometimes people will go and have their allergy shots on a regular basis so that they can keep the allergies under control and not have to worry about them causing problems in their life. This is the easy to way to make sure that a person is not faced with dealing with their allergies on a day-to-day basis so much.

Using antihistamines is another good option for most that are dealing with allergies. The can be taken in many different forms. Some will have them as a pill, liquid, nasal spray, or even eye drops. There are over the counter antihistamine eye drops that can relieve itchy and red eyes. The nasal sprays are going to be used to treat symptoms of seasonal and year round allergies.

The antihistamines will be a good counteracted to the allergies that a person may have. Histamine is released by the immune system and it will attach to receptors in the blood vessels that are causing them to increase. This can make it possible for redness, swelling, itching and even changes in secretions.

Many of the over counter allergy medications will not make you drowsy. There are non-sedating forms that are also available by prescription only. You can check into the types of allergy medications that are out there and what is going to work best for your situation and what you can afford as well. It is a good idea to read labels and make sure that you are getting the right type of medication for the problem that you are having the most. This will get you the most help that you can get for the allergy that you are dealing with.

Decongestants will also relieve allergies and are often times prescribed with antihistamines. They will come in nasal sprays, eye drops, in liquid or pill form as well. It will be up to the person on which type they want to try. It is always better to use something that is going to be more convenient for them and easier to use for the lifestyle that they have. Some people will have certain reactions to different things and it is always good to talk to a doctor first before taking them.

Allergy Solutions For Sleep Apnea Sufferers

Spring is in the air, and so are the tree pollens. Millions of people suffer this time of the year from sneezing, scratchy, itchy eyes, nose and throats, nasal congestion and chronic cough. It's also a given that if you have allergies, you won't sleep as well, along with everything from asthma, cough, and sinusitis to diarrhea. So how do allergies cause sleep problems, and in general, and how does it specifically cause or aggravate obstructive sleep apnea?

When Allergies Lead to Something Worse

There are already tomes of articles, books and websites offering tips for allergy sufferers including traditional options like nasal saline irrigation, homeopathic remedies, and using a HEPA filter to prescription medications and allergy shots. But again, how can having a runny nose cause you not to sleep well at night? I've combed through numerous medical and internet resources and to date, I haven't found one good explanation.

However, looking at it from a sleep-breathing standpoint, it makes total sense: any degree of nasal congestion, whether from allergies, colds, or even weather changes, causes a slight vacuum effect downstream in the throat which can aggravate tongue collapse, especially in certain susceptible people. Who then, are susceptible to tongue collapse? Almost every modern human!

It's All In Your Jaws

To be more specific, the smaller your jaws, the more likely you'll sleep poorly when you have allergies. Even if you're completely normal, having a stuffy nose can suddenly cause your tongue to fall back and block your breathing. Plugging your nose has been shown to cause obstructions and arousals during sleep. This is why you'll toss and turn when you have an allergy or a simple cold.

Many people with allergies and small mouths will also have grooves or indentations along the side of their tongues. This is called tongue scalloping. Since the tongue and other soft tissues grow to their genetically predetermined size, and due to crowding from having smaller jaws, the teeth leave their imprints along the side of the tongue. If you have additional inflammation from gastric reflux that's a given with sleep-breathing problems, then this scalloping problem gets worse. Not too surprisingly, tongue scalloping is predictive of having apneas, hypopneas, or oxygen drops in almost 90% of people.

Allergies From Stress?

So then, why do allergies happen in the first place? Again, there are tons of proposed explanations that I don't have the space for, but here's a simple concept from Robert Sapolsky's classic book, Why Zebras Don't Get Ulcers:

Humans can handle big stresses such as a major catastrophe, a death in the family, or running away from a tiger. In these scenarios, your stress response leads to an intense activation of your immune system (in addition to your nervous system's fight or flight response). Once the stress is over, your immune system's activity level drops down to normal, but only after it dips below normal for a short period of time. During this short period, you're also more susceptible to getting sick.

However, modern societies don't have very big stresses such as running from a saber tooth tiger. Rather, we have multiple micro-stresses spread throughout the day such as being honked from the rear on the way to work, your boss yelling at you, or your computer crashing. These little stresses push your immune system's activity higher and higher, with not enough time for it to recover and go back to normal levels. After a certain point, your immune system is on constant overdrive, leading to the typical allergic or autoimmune conditions that are all-too-common today.

When Your Allergy is Not An Allergy

This process also explains why you may also have a chronically runny nose. This is called chronic or nonallergic rhinitis, when the involuntary nervous system in your nose overreacts to irritants, chemical, odors, or weather changes (either pressure, temperature, or humidity changes). Symptoms include runny nose, sneezing, nasal congestion, post-nasal drip and headaches, and is often mistaken for regular allergies. This condition may respond to regular allergy medications, but not as well. Either way, inflammation and swelling can also cause nasal congestion, leading to poor quality sleep.

Overcoming Your Allergies

If you have classic allergies, you must start with the basics: Avoid outdoor activity on high-pollen days, shower before bedtime to get the allergies out of your hair, don't wear shoes indoors, get a HEPA filter, and take over-the-counter medications as needed. Some people benefit from routine use of HEPA filters as well in their bedrooms. You may have to see your doctor if conservative measures don't help.

There are various over-the-counter allergy medications. The newer, nonsedating antihistamines block the effects of histamine, which is what causes watery, itchy, runny eyes and nose. The most common brands are Claritin, Allegra, and Zyrtec. They all work differently in different people, so the only thing you can do is to try each one and see which you prefer. Although they are nonsedating in theory, there are reported cases of drowsiness with all three. Benadryl is an older antihistamine that's very effective for allergies, except that many more people may get drowsy.

If your nose is stuffy, then two options are nasal decongestant sprays (which you can only use for 2-3 days) or decongestant pills. Routine nasal saline irrigation can also help your breathing and sleep.

There are a number of prescription medications, including topical nasal steroid or topical steroid sprays. Leukotriene phosphate inhibitors, such as Singulair, and various others also available. Oral steroids can also be useful in emergency situations. As a last resort, an allergy evaluation with shots are a consideration.

Regardless of which way you treat your allergies, it's important to follow all my recommendations for better breathing while sleeping, such as avoiding eating or drinking alcohol within 3-4 hours of bedtime, sleeping on your side or stomach. Having a stuffy nose for whatever reason can trigger breathing pauses downstream, ultimately giving you a bad night's sleep.

The Importance of Health Care Coverage in America Today

One of the most crucial issues facing American today is importance of health insurance for the American citizens. Yet there are currently 47 million Americans who are under-insured or who do not have any health insurance coverage at all. The American public is aging, the baby boomers are reaching their senior years and according to actuarial insurance statistics most individuals begin to contract major illnesses or disabilities from the age of 50 onward. These individuals cannot afford to be without health insurance. As a matter of fact, Americans of any age, social status, or walk of life cannot afford to jeopardize their health care because they are without insurance.

Medical heath care coverage is to protect Americans from the event that a medical illnesses or situation should occur and there is no money to pay for the cost of treatment. Older baby boomers understand fully well how much the cost of medical coverage is in America. A major operation, and treatment can cost thousands of dollars and sometimes reaching over 100,000 dollars. Unless the individual is fairly wealthy there is no way to be able to pay these rising health care costs.

Fortunately some working Americans do have medical health care coverage through their employers. Group insurance coverage is the most economical way of making sure your health care needs are met.

Unfortunately not all employers offer any group insurance coverage and this leaves many American families uninsured. With the rising costs of health care in America, no family can really afford to go without insurance coverage. There are just too many things that can happen. A young couple planning a family will need medical health care coverage for prenatal care, hospital stays for once the babies are born, and then doctor visits for immunizations and regular routine checkups for their children afterward. Even if a couple is young and childless there is no guarantee in life that they will always remain healthy. Doctor visits for the most innocuous things such as getting a flu shot, or going to the doctor for allergy shots will become very pricey without proper medical healthcare coverage.

Self-employed individuals must maintain a self-employed health insurance plan to protect their business. Health insurance is just as important as any other business expense. If the self-employed person can no longer work due to a temporary disability, time away from work due to an operation, or even a car accident, then that self-employed person will lose the income from their business. Besides loss of income they may actually loose their entire business if they are incapable of working for a long period of time.

American expatriots may find themselves in a country where they cannot readily get the health care that they need. The facilities may be inferior to American standards, or the services may not be available at all. Expatriot medical health insurance can provide needed money to pay for the costs of health care in the foreign country or provide coverage if the ex patriot must return to America for treatment.

All Americans need proper coverage. When it is not provided through an employer private medical healthcare coverage as well as state run health insurance plans are available. Do not go without proper health care find an affordable health insurance plan that meets your individual needs and the needs of your family.

What Makes Seasonal Allergies So Bad Some Years?

Many people who suffer from seasonal allergies often find some years they have little or no allergy symptoms, than the next year their allergies may return with vengeance and they suffer day to day the entire allergy season. This is one reason why people often fail to prepare for allergy season, because the last year was not that uncomfortable for them they do not bother to get their shots or stock up on their medicine. The biggest impact on how a bad the allergy season will be is the weather.

A very wet and rainy spring is often the start of a terrible allergy season. The more rain, the more plant and mold growth there will be. The next ingredient is dry and naturally warm weather. Lastly mother nature blows the pollen and mold spores around, higher winds pick up the pollen and spread it around which is great for plant reproduction but not so great for allergy sufferers.

Obviously there are certain places that are worse to live for people with seasonal allergies. Many people find when they move their allergies go away. Others find that their allergies start once they move to a new place. Some people who have severe allergies will sometimes even relocate to try and escape their allergy symptoms. This years worst city for spring allergies in the United States or allergy capital is Lexington, Kentucky according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. The list like the weather varies from year to year in exact ranking but many repeat offenders appear every year.

Keeping a eye on the weather can give you a indication of how bad your seasonal allergies might be but it is best to always be prepared for the worst. Stay informed and check the daily allergy and pollen levels from day to day.

Why Does Your Body Develop Eczema?

In order to understand eczema, you have to understand your skin. The skin is a protective covering over the entire body; it is the largest organ you have and the most exposed as well. This combination of expanse and exposure give your skin that chance to be affected by a multitude of things that can cause it irritation. Trauma (scrapes, cuts, etc), environmental allergens, and caustic substances are the main irritants of skin.

The skin is composed of three main layers: the epidermis (outside layer), the dermis (middle layer), and subcutaneous tissue (inner layer). These all have the ability to react to irritants by inflaming (swelling, often becoming fevered).

Your skin and how it works:

In the Epidermis, you will find keratinocytes. These are cells harboring a variety of chemicals which are released when triggered by various irritants. Appropriate chemicals are released depending on the trigger, such as the cells that react when bacteria comes in contact with the skin or pigment being released from sunlight contact. Inflammation is often another result of the release of these chemicals (for example, too much sunlight and you have slight swelling, redness and fever).

Another cell you will find in the epidermis is the Langerhans cells. These cells send out antigens that come in contact with the skin to the immune system. If the immune system decrees the antigen harmful, the Langerhans cells are transported to the lymph nodes where inflammatory cells are sent into play. These inflammatory cells create the skin condition we know as eczema. Eczema is the most common type of inflammation in the skin, and under a microscope all forms of eczema (no matter what the visible symptoms look like) are identical.

Fibroblasts and mast cells are the only cells naturally found in the dermis. Fibroblasts produce collagen and mast cells control redness, swelling, and itchiness of inflammation. Mast cells also call other inflammatory cells to action; these cells include: basophils, eosinophils, and T cell lymphocytes. The last of these, lymphocytes, go directly to the area of skin that has been subjected to irritation and are the main reason behind the appearance of eczema.

The skin, rather than just being a barrier between you insides and the world, is actually the largest organ in your immune system. It is the first defense in protecting you from all of the harmful irritants in the world, attempting to fight them off before them can take root within your other vital systems. Correct functioning of this system is protection for you. Incorrect functioning often leads to chronic diseases, like eczema.

How does it go wrong?

When this immune process is not functioning correctly, it is referred to as dysregulation. One instance of dysregulation is the chapped lips you get from wind. The body recognizes a regular assault from the wind, which is not of the body, and begins to defend against it. You will also see this when your hands are in water very often. The epidermis is damaged by the outside element (or trigger) and inflammatory cells are called in to battle. The rub comes when too many inflammatory cells are on the battlefield, this is the actual process of eczema. It is important to remember that eczema covers all types of inflammation in the skin and in this case, the word is being used as just that.

Eczema as most people use the word is actually Atopic Dermatitis (AD). This is a severe reaction to an irritant. People with AD are naturally more allergic than others, usually exhibiting asthma and/or hay fever and have a family history of others with eczema, asthma, and/or hay fever. With over 20 genes responsible for your AD, it is no wonder that symptoms of AD vary from patient to patient.

Not only are there different symptoms in different people, but different organs are also affected, which is why some people have hay fever as opposed to asthma or eczema when exposed to the same allergen (allergy trigger) or irritant. Hay fever affects the nasal passages, while asthma and eczema affect the lungs and skin respectively. Patients may have any combination of these orgasm affected.

If you have eczema as most people use the word, you actually have AD. Your body over-produces inflammatory cells in reaction to allergens or irritants. This is the difference between the standard sneeze or two from most people while you may sneeze repeatedly (if your reaction is in the nasal passages). Other affected organs react the same way. Allergy shots may or may not help you for allergens, but not for caustic substances. Those must be avoided.

Should You Get A Dog? Questions Pondered If Its The Right Time

Should I Get a Dog?

Dogs are one of the most popular pets in the world. They have enjoyed this status for a very long time, probably from the time 10,000 to 15,000 years ago when Stone Age cave dwellers lived and hunted with dogs.

If you think you want a dog, you're following a well-established tradition.

Why You Might Want a Dog

There are a number of reasons that people think they might want a dog for a pet. The most universal is the desire for the companionship of an animal who will be a loyal friend for many years. Others think it would be nice to have a watchdog to guard the house, and some people are interested in participating in dog shows, agility trials or other organized activities.

If you're thinking about getting a dog, it's important to determine if you can care for him properly. Dogs need several things from a pet parent:

Time

Commitment

Attention

For your dog to stay healthy, he will need to be fed correctly, exercised sufficiently, groomed regularly and taken to the vet for regular checkups and shots. If you want your dog to be well-mannered and a pleasure to be around, you will have to make sure he is thoroughly socialized and trained, which requires spending many hours with him. Dogs also need set schedules so they know when they'll be fed and when they'll be let out.

If you're a very busy person who works long hours and travels a lot, dog ownership may not be for you.

Things to Consider Before You Buy a Dog

Owning a dog can be one of the most rewarding experiences you can have, but before you even begin to think about what kind of dog you might want, you need to ask yourself some serious questions about how well your lifestyle will suit any dog.

Many people fall in love with a cute puppy at a pet store and bring it home only to face a brutal truth. That cute puppy will have to be taken out to relieve himself first thing in the morning. Every single morning. Even weekend mornings. Even if it's raining or snowing or 100 degrees in the shade. And he'll have to go out more than once a day, sometimes several times more than once, especially when he's young.

That's just the start. Here are some other things to seriously consider before plunging into dog ownership:

Allergies

A bad allergic reaction to dogs in a member of your family can result in your having to find a new home for the dog--a sad experience for everyone. Some individuals are severely allergic and can't even live in a house where a dog has lived. Others are much less bothered and can make adjustments so that they can live comfortably with a pet. An allergy may be to the dog's saliva, hair or dander. Not all dogs cause the same allergic reaction. Certain breeds are known to be less allergenic because they shed very little or not at all. These include the Chinese crested, which has no hair, and breeds, which can range in size, such as a Basenji, Bichon Frise, and a Standard Poodle.

What Do You Want in a Dog?

Is your main concern to have a house pet who will be a good companion? Do you want an athletic dog who can go with you when you run? Will you take your dog on camping trips and will he have to be big enough to carry his own food? Do you want a dog that can be a credible watchdog and guardian? Do you want to show the dog? Do you want to participate in agility, obedience or field trials? You will want to study the different breeds and then talk to breeders and members of local dog clubs to find out what characteristics will best fit your expectations.

Can Your Children Adjust?

Children love puppies, but both children and puppies need supervision. Kids can play too rough with a puppy, and a young child will not understand that the puppy is tired and needs to rest. A puppy who is hurt or tired of playing is likely to growl and snap, and sometimes bite, to get the child to leave him alone. An older dog can be a serious threat if he is not used to children. There is one rule NEVER to be broken: Babies and toddlers should never be left unsupervised with a dog, no matter how much you trust the dog.

Can Your Other Pets Adjust?

If you already have pets, you will need to consider how the dog will adjust to them and they to him. If you have cats that have never been around a dog, you may have a long period of adjustment or the combination may not work at all. Puppies will usually learn to live with cats if care is taken that the initial meeting is not too traumatic. If you are considering an older dog, try to find out how he has previously reacted to other pets.

How Much Space Do You Have for a Dog?

This is an important consideration. A large, active dog, such as a retriever or German shepherd can run and play in a large, fenced-in yard. Often, though, the dog doesn't do much playing if you aren't available to be with him, and he will simply lounge around on the grass just as he would if he were inside on his dog bed. Large dogs can be happy even in an apartment if they get a long walk or two every day.

Housing

Unless you live in the country and spend a great deal of time outside with your dog, he will not be happy as a strictly outdoor dog. Outside should be for playing and exercising. A dog should never be left outdoors in hot weather without shade and water or in cold weather without well-insulated shelter. If your dog spends much time outside, he will need a fenced-in yard or a large kennel.

Can You Afford a Dog?

Your dog will have to be fed and groomed and provided with toys and treats. You may want to take him to obedience classes. If you travel occasionally on business or you're going on trips and can't take your dog, you will need to arrange to board him or to hire a dog sitter who will take care of him in your home.

Veterinary Care

Your dog will need regular veterinary checkups, which will include vaccinations, worming and flea and tick prevention. A medical emergency can cost several hundred dollars. As your dog ages, he may develop chronic health conditions that require regular visits to the vet. Veterinary charges vary from city to city. If you have not owned a pet before, you might want to call to see what the rates are in your area.

Grooming

If you don't have time to groom your dog, don't have the facilities to give him a bath conveniently, or if he requires special grooming, you will need to pay for a professional groomer. You will also need brushes and combs for maintenance.

Licensing

Dogs are required to be licensed. Fees are set by the county or the city and vary widely. To find out about licensing, call your county animal control office. Your vet and the local animal shelter will also know where you should go to purchase a license.

Exercise and Companionship - Do You Have Time?

Some dogs need only a short walk once or twice a day, while others are built to run all day. Be honest when you consider what level of regular exercise will be comfortable for you. If you have a heavy work schedule, taking the dog for a walk in the evening may be a burden rather than a pleasure. An active dog who only gets real exercise on weekends and holidays is likely to be unhappy, not to mention bored and destructive. In addition to exercise, your dog needs time with you. If you have a full work schedule and a busy social life, your dog is likely to be lonely, bored and destructive.

Size and Energy Level of the Dog

Before you even think about getting a young, highly energetic dog, such as a golden retriever, you need to ask yourself if you are strong enough to control and exercise a dog that will want to run and play and that could easily knock you down by accident. Don't buy a puppy that will turn into a 150-pound athlete if your energy level is more attuned to a stroll with a toy poodle.

Is Your Lifestyle Stable?

One common reason that dogs are given up to animal shelters is that the owner has had to move, and the new living quarters don't allow pets. Or the owner has married, and the new spouse doesn't like dogs. Are you likely to move frequently? Is your family life stable? Does your job require you to travel often or for long periods of time?

Puppy or Older Dog?

Most people automatically think about puppies when they think about getting a dog. While puppies are cute and fun, there are benefits in getting an older dog. It's much easier to housetrain an older dog. Puppies don't physically have the capacity for holding their urine for long period of time and must be taken out frequently. You will not have to wait for an older dog to grow up to see what size he will be or what kind of temperament he will have, and if you get your dog from an animal shelter or a rescue organization, you will probably be saving his life.

The First Steps

If after having read all this, you still want a dog, congratulations! You're probably eager to take the first step, and you want to dash out to the pet store, or the breeder, or the shelter, or the rescue organization, but don't rush out and pick up a dog just yet. It's important that you take the time to read as much as you can about selecting, introducing and keeping a dog. Browse through the other articles on our web site. Check books out of the public library or visit a bookstore.

Consider what kind of dog you want. Do you want a purebred dog or a mix? Do you want a male or a female? Do you want a puppy or an older dog? Talk to other dog owners that you know. Where did they get their dogs and what was their experience? Where do you want to look for the perfect choice?

Once you decide to get a dog, choose an occasion to bring him home when you and your family will have time to give him plenty of attention; bringing him home at the start of a long weekend or a vacation, when you will have more time to spend at home with him, will definitely make the transition to his new home easier for him as well as his new family. Prepare for his arrival. You'll need to know what to expect and how to care for him when he first comes into your life.

If you have carefully chosen your new canine friend and properly prepared for him, bringing him home can be one of the most joyful experiences of your life. He will become part of your family and will love you without reservation. Return his love, and he will really be your best friend.

Dogs and Ear Problems

No matter how much extra effort we exert in keeping our dogs clean most of the time with regular hygiene, there will come a point when they will contract ear infections especially if we neglect their ears. Your dog's ears require your careful attention as well because some dog breeds have ears that are structured to be prone to ear problems. It is important that we address this problem to avoid untoward accidents of dog's getting aggressive or biting their masters because they were not aware of their pets suffering from excruciating pain because of the ear problem. Usually these ear infections are mild and occur in the outer portion of the ear.

Signs that your dog is having an ear infection...

There are tell tale signs that your dog may be experiencing any ear irritation. You may observe that your dog frequently scratches his ears, rubs them against the carpet or your furniture. Your dog may also tilt or hold its head consistently towards one side or may shake it profusely most of the time. You may also notice some swelling or redness on your dog's ears. For other dogs, they may experience discharges that could range in color from yellow to brown and even black. Quite often, when your dog has ear infections, you may detect a foul smell. For those pooches that are quite unlucky, they have abnormally structured ear canals that make them prone to contracting ear infections.

Possible causes...

A common cause of ear infections is allergies. The dog may be allergic to a particular food, medication or shampoo. The ear infection is an off shoot of the allergy. Water getting into the ears could also be another reason for having ear infections. If your dog enjoys swimming a lot, it may be prone to getting ear related problems. It is important that you dry your dog's ears after every swim or bath to help prevent irritations and infections. Other causes may be due to ear wax build up, improper clean up of the ears especially with the utilization of cotton swabs or tips that often push debris further inside the ear, existence of ear mites and hair growth inside the ears.

Home remedies...

If your dog's ear infection is caused by a yeast infection as evidenced by the existence of pink brownish wax, you may clean your dog's ears with acetic acid or white vinegar. A mixture of the herb pau d'arco with mineral oil helps kill bacteria and fungi inside your dog's ears as well. Giving your pet also a dose of vitamin C can help alleviate the inflammation inside your dog's ears when it is experiencing ear infections. Remove also unwanted hair growth inside your dog's ears. If you are not too familiar or too sure on how to go about this without irritating your dog, you can seek the help of your vet or a dog groomer.

Visit your vet

It is advisable to always seek the help of your pet doctor to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment for your dog's ear infection. Usually your vet may recommend antifungal medication, antibiotics or other medication which can either be topical or oral. Surgery is always a last resort.

Milk and Allergy

Dr Maurice Bowerman, of Oregon, in a paper written in 1980, described the damaging effect of milk on five of his patients, who for years had suffered from fatigue, poor memory and poor concentration. When milk was removed from their diets, four patients became free of symptoms and the fifth greatly improved. Why is milk so damaging? The answer is 'pasteurization'.

When milk is pasteurized, the natural enzymes present in raw milk are destroyed. Without these enzymes, milk cannot be properly digested. One of the most important enzymes in milk is lipase, which is there to break down fat. Pasteurized milk no longer has this enzyme and this makes it impossible for the body to digest it properly. As a result, undigested milk particles can end up in the bloodstream causing havoc to the immune system and resulting in a confusing array of allergy reactions. Apart from the fact that cow's milk is four times stronger than breast milk, infants fed on cow's milk, also have to contend with the enormous task of digesting it. No wonder many of them get sick, and remain sick, throughout their lives until milk is removed from their diet.

Pasteurized cow's milk is particularly damaging to infants under twelve months of age. It has been found to cause gastrointestinal blood loss due to the effect on the baby's underdeveloped intestinal tract. Cow's milk is also too high in protein, sodium, and potassium for a baby's immature kidneys and, thus places them under great strain. Anaemia may develop because of the child's low iron content, combined with blood loss from the intestine. These problems can continue in later life.

Professor Carl Wood, an eminent medical academic and chairman of the in vitro fertilization programme, at the Queen Victoria Medical Centre in Melbourne found that his allergy to milk was leading to a variety of symptoms.

"I used to get gastro-enterological problems - a lot of diarrhea, colic, also fuzziness and tiredness after a meal, and all that was related to the fact that I can't tolerate milk. After some years of taking milk when you can't tolerate it you become very sensitive to all sorts of foods. So I have a very basic diet - steamed veggies and simple meats and I feel much better."

A classic example of how a milk allergy can hoodwink a doctor, even one of Professor Wood's stature - and cause further food allergies to develop.

It must be understood that milk includes all dairy products and foods, containing milk as an additive. An allergy to milk usually requires total abstinence from foods containing it, in order to stay well.

Allergy Effects on The Pancreas and Small Intestine

Pancreas:

The pancreas is a long, narrow gland which stretches from the spleen to about the middle of the duodenum. It has three main functions. Firstly, to provide digestive juices for everything that goes through the duodenum. These digestive juices contain pancreatic enzymes in an alkaline solution to provide the right conditions for the digestive process to be completed in the small intestine. Secondly, the pancreas produces insulin, the hormone which controls blood sugar by the metabolism of sugar and other carbohydrates. Thirdly, it produces sodium bicarbonate to neutralize acids coming from the stomach and so provide the right environment for the pancreatic enzymes to be effective.

Many people with food and chemical allergy problems have an inability, either to produce a certain enzyme, or to produce enough enzymes for the digestive process to work effectively. In conjunction with this is an inability to produce enough sodium bicarbonate essential for the pancreatic enzymes to function properly. As a result, partially digested peptides (protein particles) are absorbed into the bloodstream and attach themselves to other proteins, thereby inducing further allergic reactions. The inflammation in the system, resulting from continuing allergic reactions, can focus on a 'target' organ, causing injury and, finally, serious disease. This can often happen to the pancreas, thus the initial malfunction may, not only accentuate an allergic response, but may also lead to further inflammation of the pancreas itself.

Clinical ecologists have discovered that production of insulin by the pancreas is directly related, not only to the intake of carbohydrates, but also to the ingestion of all types of food. They have also noticed that insulin production is altered by allergenic foods. Accordingly, this abnormal insulin reaction can be used to identify the offending allergen, by giving a person a standard dose of the suspected food, or chemical, and observing his blood sugar level after a measured time.
The pancreas therefore is an important organ in the mediation of both addiction and allergy. Very often it is the first organ in the body to be significantly affected by any allergen.

Small Intestine:

The small intestine is a narrow tube, about six meters long, which empties into the large intestine or colon. It is a vital organ of the body as it carries out most of the digestive processes.

After being mixed with hydrochloric acid in the stomach, food passes through the duodenum into the small intestine. Here, enzymes secreted by the intestinal wall set about the biochemical process of breaking down the food into its various chemical components. Absorption of these components then takes place through the villi, which are tiny finger-like projections in the intestinal wall. In this way the body receives its essential nutrients of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes.

Food allergy problems usually cause some damage to the small intestine. In the case of grain allergies, this can be serious and even result in death, through intestinal cancer. At best, damage to the villi and intestinal wall will cause malabsorption: a reduction in absorption of essential nutrients. This leads to exacerbation of the allergy problem with further food intolerance developing. The intestinal wall becomes porous and allows undigested food particles to enter the blood stream, causing further havoc to a floundering immune system. Eventually, a complete breakdown in health can occur.

Cat Lovers Guide to Dating

Spring has sprung and summer is just a stone's throw away and the air is filled with possibilities of meeting a new someone to date.

Dog owners seem to have the least amount of problems dating than true cat lovers.

Why?

Most people readily accept dogs as family members.

Whereas, many people (especially men) consider cats sneaky and smelly.

Sneaky, cats are not; smelly, blame the owners.

If you are a cat owner entering the dating arena, there are a few important things you need to consider.

Odors are the worst offenders in any relationship, be it personal odors or pet odors, both have to go.

Your home is a personal expression of you.

You can come across as someone with good taste and style that has a cat or you can present a picture of someone that has a cat and does not care who knows it by its smell.

Housekeeping is essential if you have a pet, be it cat or dog, but extremely important if you have an indoor cat and of course, a litter box.

Keeping the litter box clean is vital, not only does it keep odor out, it keeps your cat happy, too. Scooping out the box twice a day, and when the deposit is especially smelly, does not require much effort.

Doing this keeps odors at a minimum.

Cat hair on everything is another picky point. I know you can't be well dressed without cat hair, but some men/women seem to hate wearing it.

So, what's a girl/guy to do?

Brushing kitty helps, using a mini-vac is a great idea on the furniture or a sticky tape roller is good. When there are no guests are around use a sheet on the sofa to collect kitty's hair.

Many people are offended to see a cat walking all over the counters, tables and everywhere else.

I currently have only 3 cats, but our household has had as many as 6 cats at one time and I can honestly say none have ever been counter or table walkers.

Why?

The first time the first one tried it, I calmly picked it up and put it on the floor with a "good loud NO" and after two or three times, that was it.

Somehow the word got out to the others, as they came along and no one has ever jumped on the counter or table, since that first time.

Therefore, I know you can teach your precious baby not to do it, too.

Remember nothing happens unless you put forth some effort.

If you have a cat that is spraying around the house, my first question is, have you had it neutered or spayed?

It matters not, that your cat is an indoor cat, spaying or neutering is extremely important. Not only will the spraying stop, but your cat will be healthier.

Granted a neutered or spayed cat will spray if under stress, but you can help reduce the stress by using a product called Feliway. It comes in a spray or a plug-in diffuser.

Feliway is also recommended for litter box problems, as long as the problem is not an "unclean litter box" or a medical problem. For more information you can search the Internet.

If you have taken all the things I have discussed under consideration, your home should not "smell."

The next thing to consider is what I call "dating etiquette."

Dating someone for the first time is a thrilling and scary experience at best, but it is rather important that you mention you have a cat or cats early on in the beginning of the relationship (date.)

Why?

Well, many men and women too, have allergic reactions to cats (or so they say.)

My feeling is if you are a true blue "love me, love my cat(s) person it is best to get it out in the open as quickly as possible in order to survey the situation.

In solving allergy problems, I am not an authority, but there are ways and means to combat allergies, if the situation warrants it. However, the person just may not like cats or is afraid of cats and it is important to know that early on so you (they) can decide what the alternatives are if any.

Many anti-cat people have been converted to pro-cat people, however you as the cat person have to be willing to compromise.

Keep in mind that when you find a compatible relationship, it is worth extra effort to find a way to compromise and have the situation work.

In the days gone by we used to say "a good man/woman is hard to find," so I say when you find that good one, do whatever it takes to make the relationship work.

There is no reason that you, kitty and that wonderful person cannot make beautiful music together.

Cat Sneezing and Runny Nose Symptoms - Crank Up Your Feline's Immune System Naturally

"My kitten has cat sneezing and runny nose symptoms. I am afraid it may turn into something more serious if I do nothing. What is the quickest way to alleviate my feline friend's affliction?" When your pets hurt, you hurt too. You can't stand to see your little buddy in misery. They are helpless, and can't jump in a car and drive themselves to the Wal-Mart for some sinus medicine.

A veterinarian visit could cost several hundred, and is not guaranteed to work. There may even be a second visit required, and it could take a couple of months to figure it all out. Trust me, I have gone this route. It is time-consuming, and aggravating to both you and your cat. So what can you do to cure the cat sneezing and runny nose symptoms safely and quickly?

There are natural, safe homeopathic cat sneezing and runny nose cures that work quickly, have no side effects, and can be applied in the comfort of your home in about ten seconds. These natural cures treat a host of cat diseases and afflictions. Think about it, cats in the wild cure themselves by eating natural weeds and herbs. Your cat is no different. He is a product of nature, to be cured by nature.

Further proof that natural homeopathic pet cures for cat sneezing and runny nose symptoms are gaining in popularity is everywhere. Many vets and pet care experts have recently stated the belief that the commonly accepted veterinarian practices and medicines in use today are actually shortening our pet's lives. When you consider that your cat may end up with a side effect that is more serious than the symptom you are treating, the vet route looks iffy, as well as costly.

Homeopathy is the practice of like curing like. A small super-charged, condensed dose of disease-causing natural substance is dribbled on your pet's tongue. Your cat's immune system immediately ramps up to fight the intruder. When this happens, a marvelous positive side-effect occurs. Your pet's entire body gets an amazing boost, not just that part that fights the cat sneezing and runny nose symptoms! Overall improved health for your pet is the benefit of a homeopathic pet cure.

You want only the safest and fastest-acting cures when your cat or kitten is sneezing. Having some inexpensive, safe, natural cures on hand for quick application is the best way to treat cat sneezing and runny nose symptoms.

What You Need To Know About Intestinal Biopsies

Failure to obtain biopsies during endoscopy misses important treatable intestinal conditions

Thousands of people are undergoing endoscopic exams daily without having tissue samples obtained. Sadly, though their exams may visually appear normal, under the microscope there are often microscopic findings that explain the symptoms that will respond to directed therapy. The gut is lined with superficial cells that contain a few immune cells that release chemical mediators that attract other cells to the area and fight off foreign invaders.

Several cells only seen microscopically play a role in digestive symptoms

Lymphocytes, eosinophils and mast cells are the immune cells that are normally present in small numbers in the surface cells of the gastrointestinal tract. A few lymphocytes are present in the tips of the surface cells that are a type of epithelial cell. These lymphocytes act as the body's scouts. They survey the barrier of the gut to the inside of the body, looking for signs of potential invading infectious agents. Once an attack is perceived, they signal reinforcements to join them on the front lines.

Lymphocytes are immune cells detected early in celiac disease and cause bowel symptoms

When persistent increased numbers of lymphocytes are present in the surface cells, a chronic inflammatory condition of the gut exists. In the duodenum, autoimmune reaction to gluten in genetically susceptible individuals is a common but frequently missed cause of chronic inflammation known more commonly as celiac disease or Sprue.

Eosinophils and mast cells are allergy cells that cause bowel inflammation often due to food

Eosinophils and mast cells are types of immune cells involved in allergy reactions in the body. They are less commonly present in the gastrointestinal lining except when there are parasites, food allergies, or chronic inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis. Eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders are less common and a newly recognized condition, mastocytic enterocolitis, is diagnosed when excess mast cells are present in the small bowel and colon. However, mast cells may be difficult to see on biopsies without a special stain for tryptase, an enzyme present in mast cells that are immunologically activated.

Allergic esophagus condition may mimic reflux but is due to food and eosinophils

The esophagus normally contains no eosinophils. The two exceptions gastroesophageal acid reflux in which small numbers, up to 6-7 usually and no more than 10-12 per high power field (40X magnification) are found in the lower esophagus only not in the mid or upper esophagus. Allergic eosinophilic esophagitis is diagnosed when 15 or more eosinophils per high power field are found in more than two fields or more than 20 to 24 per high power field in one field are seen or lesser numbers are present in the upper esophagus. Mast cells that are activated have also been found associated with allergic eosinophilic esophagitis and their presence supports allergic esophagitis over reflux as the cause of the increase eosinophils though it is believed some people have both conditions coexisting.

Allergy and immune cells in the stomach and intestines found microscopically cause symptoms

In the stomach and small intestine more than 10 eosinophils per high power field defines eosinophilic gastroenteritis. In the small intestine and colon more than 20 mast cells per high power field found in association with otherwise unexplained diarrhea is now termed mastocytic enterocolitis. This newly recognized and described entity is previously unrecognized cause of diarrhea in some patients diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome who may have been told they have a normal colon exam though no biopsies were done. Similarly, more than 20 lymphocytes per 100 epithelial cells in the colon are found in lymphocytic colitis, another form of microscopic inflammation of the intestine resulting in diarrhea that may be inappropriately diagnosed as IBS.

Gluten grains wheat, barley and rye cause increased lymphocytes with normal blood tests

In many of these patients, gluten sensitivity is to blame and the lymphocytic colitis is felt to represent a colonic form of celiac disease. In celiac disease, 30 or more lymphocytes in the tips of the villi per 100 epithelial cells is the earliest sign of gluten injury occurring before the villi become flattened or blunted. This finding may noted before the specific blood tests, anti-endomysial (EMA) and anti-tissue transglutaminase (tTG) antibodies appear in the blood even though the intestine is damaged enough to result in nutrient malabsorption and diarrhea. Anti-gliadin antibodies are often present however when significant intra-epithelial lymphocytosis is present along with symptoms that respond to gluten free diet. Lesser degrees of intra-epithelial lymphocytosis have been proposed as highly suggestive of early celiac disease and or gluten sensitivity, in the range of 20-25 per 100 epithelial cells.

Colon can be affected early with microscopic signs only

In the colon, the presence of eosinophils is considered one of the earliest findings of chronic inflammatory bowel disease. In the right colon more than 20 eosinophils per high power field and in the left colon greater than 20 per high power field is considered abnormal and suggests eosinophilic colitis, chronic inflammatory bowel disease or a parasitic infection.

Allergy cells release chemicals causing pain, diarrhea, and sometimes constipation

Eosinophils and mast cells release chemicals that irritate the bowel, increase permeability (cause leaky gut), increase contractions of the gut, increase intestinal secretions and heighten pain. Both cells are related to allergies including food allergies. It is therefore not difficult to conceive of a link to adverse food reactions in the development of intestinal irritation.

Most digestive symptoms should be evaluated by scope examination and blood tests

The important point to be aware of if you have gastrointestinal symptoms and are undergoing or have undergone an endoscopic examination is that a normal appearing intestinal lining does not exclude the presence of damage or irritation sufficient to cause symptoms of pain, bloating, gas, and diarrhea nor exclude impaired digestion and absorption. Blood tests exist that can help screen for celiac disease, Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis but biopsies of intestinal lining is usually required for definitive diagnosis.

Normal appearing gut lining may not be normal, make sure you get biopsies

Only through obtaining tissue samples that are examined under the microscope can abnormal types and number of inflammatory cells be identified. It is through biopsies of normal appearing intestinal lining that the correct diagnosis of various microscopic forms of gastrointestinal inflammatory diseases is confirmed. So, if you are preparing to undergo an endoscopic exam, I encourage you to insist that your doctor perform biopsies even they believe your exam looks normal. Based on the information I have reviewed above, a normal exam should be tip off that one of these microscopic conditions might be to blame for your symptoms.

A Better Way to Stop Allergic Rhinitis than Taking Shots

You wouldn't think that Japan and central Texas would have much in common. They clearly have very different landscapes. They are almost polar opposites in cuisine and culture. And even the best English-speakers from Japan have to listen very carefully to understand Texas speech.

A common health condition in both locations, however, is allergy to cedar fever. Known as "kafunso" in Japan and as "cedar fever" in Texas, approximately 10 million people in both locations suffer from tree pollen allergies in the winter and early spring.

Cedar and juniper trees are abundant in both locations. Japan planted cedars to reforest hills burned during wartime. Texans planted "cedars" to replace trees eaten by hordes of goats. Both locations have vast areas covered by a single kind of fast-growing tree, about 12 per cent of the total land surface of Japan, and about 12 per cent of the total land surface of Texas.

The symptoms of tree pollen allergies are likened to having a non-infectious case of flu for six to eight weeks each and every year. And it's very hard to function if you have to take antihistamines and nose sprays for that long.

Treating tree pollen allergies with allergy shots

Since the 1960's, Texans have been getting treatment for tree pollen allergies with allergic desensitization shots. Japanese allergy sufferers will be able to get the treatment in 2014, but this is not necessarily a good thing.

"Allergy shots" have been around since 1910. The idea behind the method is that if the body is exposed to an extremely tiny amount of the offending substance by injection, it won't react. More and more concentrated injections are given over a period of months until, it is to be hoped, the allergy sufferer no longer has any allergies at all.

There is one major downside to this technique. If the "shot" contains too much of the allergen, potentially fatal anaphylaxis can result. Texans used to be given vials of anti-allergy serum and taught to given themselves injections at home, until too many users of the shots were dying of anaphylactic reactions.

Do allergy shots really work?

Another question about this technique is whether it really works. Identifying exactly the right pollen for making the serum requires a lot of work, so patients usually get a "one mixture treats all" serum that the allergist hopes contains the right pollen. Maybe it does, and maybe it doesn't.

The other issue is that allergies can go away on their own, without any discernible reason, and they can come back on their own, also without any discernible reason. You can take a long, expensive course of treatment for an allergy that you were going to get over with or without taking shots, and you can also develop a new allergy "out of the blue."

Shots have their limitations, and medications have their limitations. So what is an pollen sufferer to do?

Treating allergic rhinitis with massage.

One of the oldest therapies for allergies is acupressure. Applying gentle pressure to predetermined points on the body, acupressure is sometimes explained as interrupting, amplifying, diminishing, or redirected the flow of the vital force "chi" throughout the body. But you don't have to understand or accept Traditional Chinese Medicine for acupressure to work for you.

Side Effects Of Blood Pressure Medications

All blood pressure medication should lower blood pressure but in addition they can produce some undesirable side effects. Type of medication alter basic body functions not only in the blood vessels but in the nervous system and kidneys as well. Because all of the systems in the body are interconnected even drugs that effect only one type of molecule in the body will produce some type of side effect.

Beta Blockers:

A common type of blood pressure medication like beta blockers are used to control cardiac arrhythmia or irregular heart beat. Beta blockers limit the ability of the heart to beat faster and as a result they reduce the ability of a person to exercise. Fatigue and the ability to react to the basic flight or fight response during an emergency situation is severely reduced. In June of 2006 the United Kingdom downgraded the use of beta-blockers for the elderly because of the increased risk of provoking type 2 diabetes. Other drugs were found to be much better in controlling high blood pressure.

Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) Inhibitors:

Lisinopril is in a class of drugs called angiotensin-converting-enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. It is used to lower blood pressure by decreasing certain chemicals in the blood that tighten the blood vessels. In other words, lisinopril will dilate the blood vessels so blood flows more smoothly and the heart can pump blood more efficiently using less pressure. It is also used to treat congestive heart failure and to improve the survival rate after a heart attack. The most common side effect of Lisinopril is a violent, non-productive cough, dizziness, fatigue and flue like symptoms. Another side effect, though not very common but it is dangerous is a pounding or uneven heartbeat.

Diuretics:

Diuretics are used to treat blood pressure problems by stimulating the kidneys to flush excess fluid and sodium from the human body. Less blood volume allows the heart to move the blood easier throughout the body. Loss of potassium, dry mouth and dehydration are the most common side effects of diuretics.

Calcium Channel Blockers:

Calcium channel blockers (CCBs) keeps the blood vessels and heart from absorbing calcium which causes the blood vessels to relax. Calcium causes the heart to contract and the blood vessels to contract. CCBs are also used to slow the heart rate and are used for treating an abnormally rapid heart rate. The most common side effect of calcium channel blockers are headache, nausea, constipation, rash, dizziness and fluid retention.

Alpha Blockers:

Alpha blockers stop certain nerve impulses to the blood vessels causing the vessels to relax. Alpha blockers stop a natural hormone called nor-epinephrine from stimulating the muscles in the walls of the of the smaller blood vessels. The most common side effect of alpha blockers is low blood pressure, dizziness, headache, pounding heart beat, nausea, fatigue, fluid retention and an increase of the cholesterol levels in the blood. Some alpha blockers can increase the risk of heart failure with long term use.

Vasodilators:

Vasodilators directly cause the muscles in the blood vessels walls to relax thus preventing the muscles from tightening and the walls of the blood vessels from narrowing. Side effects of vasodilators are headache, nasal congestion, chest pain, rapid hear beat, pounding heart beat, fluid retention and dizziness. Long term use increase the risk of developing a connective tissue disease called lupus.

Common Vitamins and over the counter products can help with high blood pressure such as diuretics, copper, vitamin B, vitamin A, Quercitin, Potassium, Lecithin and Iron.

Natural diuretics are contained in cranberries, anything that has caffeine and apple cider vinegar. Fruits and vegetables such as watermelon and cucumbers contain a lot of water and will help increase urination. If you are taking COUMADIN then check with your doctor before using cranberry.

There is strong evidence that trace mineral Copper is vital to the tensile strength of the coronary blood vessels.

Vitamin B taken together as a team perform vital biological processes including aiding in the healing process for congestive heart failure and reduces fluid retention. It is required for the development of red blood cells.

Vitamin C has show to reduce cholesterol levels and lowers high blood pressure.

Quercitin is a well known flavonoid. Flavonoids are powerful antioxidants and can reduce inflammation boost the immune system and strengthen blood vessels and improve circulation. Quercitin is also known for its ability to block the release of histamines, thus reducing or preventing allergy symptoms. Take 500 mg twice daily.

Potassium may help prevent high blood pressure and protect against atherosclerosis and reduce the risk of stroke.

Lecithin has the potential to protect against fat clogged arteries when take daily.
Iron is an essential component of hemoglobin, the oxygen carrying substance in red blood cells. Iron is vital for the production of blood by the bone marrow. The single most common cause of anemia is the lack of Iron.

Lifestyle changes can also lower the risk of medical emergencies do to arteriosclerosis. Quit smoking, eat healthy foods, weight loss and get regular exercise. This treatment is often problematic for many to achieve and continue for the long term.

Some Basic Knowledge About Dust Mite Allergy

In the United States alone, at least 10% of the overall population have dust mite allergy or have experienced a dust mite allergy attack.

Dust mite allergy is caused by dust mites. Dust mites are tiny little insects that belong to genus Dermatophagoides, which are in the same family as spiders -- Arachnida in the kingdom Insecta.

Yes, dust mites are insects, and therefore, are living organisms that can be killed and eliminated. But, although they are living creatures, dust mites are surprisingly so small and so tiny that you can not barely see them with just your naked eye.

The insect known as dust mite

Dust mites are oval-shaped, eight-legged insects equipped with sticky pads on their feet that help them burrow deep into furniture and carpet fibers. Dust mites, when observed under powerful magnifying lenses will appear in a creamy color.

These insects thrive by feeding on small bits of finger nails, pollen, human shed skin, bacteria, fungi and animal dander.

Dust mites favor hot and humid environments because they absorb air moisture. Humidity between 70% to 80% coupled with optimum temperatures of about 75 degrees to 80 degrees Fahrenheit is the prefect environment setting for dust mites. Such climate will help dust mites consume their food well.

Dust mite allergy

Because dust mite is not parasitic in nature, is considered not a serious threat to humans. It does not suck blood, nor even bite.

However, dust mites become problems when they try to enter human bodies' systems unintentionally along with dusts.

Because of their tiny structures and light weight, dust mites tend to fly around the room and go along with dusts when inhaled by humans. This makes dust mites dangerous.

Inhaling dust mites will cause an allergic reaction, which is commonly and appropriately termed dust mite allergy. Dust mite allergy takes the form of simple dust allergies, except that dusts are inhalant, are non living allergens, but dust mites are living creatures.

Symptoms may be exactly similar to a dust allergy attack. The victim experiences uneasiness in breathing, coughs occasionally and sometimes suffer from sore and itchy throat.

Treatment of dust mite allergy

The best treatment to dust mite allergy is to cut or eliminate exposure to such insects. If that does not bring along immediate results, then allergy shots and medications available in drug stores can be taken in.

For dust mite allergy, like in most allergies, the most basic medication or drug administered is antihistamine. Antihistamines contain enzymes that help curtail allergic body reactions to allergens.

However, the efficiency of antihistamines in treating dust mite allergy will not be assured unless exposure to dust mite is significantly cut down or totally eradicated.

Preventing occurrences of dust mite allergies

The best way to prevent dust mite allergies from occurring is through maintaining cleanliness in the surroundings, especially home and bedroom, where dust mites normally thrive.

Remember that vacuum cleaners can only suck dead dust mites, but the living ones will always find the way to resist and escape them.

Thus, another option to keep your house dust mite free is by installing air conditioners and air dehumidifier. Dust mites love hot and humid surroundings, and reducing heat and humidity inside home will surely knock them off.

How Do Allergy Drops Work?

Allergies are caused due to a number of different reasons. Allergy drops can make a world of difference for someone who suffers from allergies. This article discusses how these drops work and how they will help you live your life without the fear of itchy skin, puffy eyes or even sneezing.

For allergy sufferers looking forward to an allergy-free life, injections and oral drops are the two forms of immunotherapy which are most commonly used. However, it is important to determine that the option you choose is right for your body and allergy type. The number of advantages of drops over shots has led more people to that form of treatment. In fact, many have found effective, long-lasting allergy relief with these drops.

Do Allergies Control Your Life? Here's Why You Should Consider Allergy Drops

繚 Reduced doctor visits - When compared to shots which need to be injected in a doctor's office, the drops can be applied at home thus reducing the number of visits to the doctor. Thus the inconvenience of visiting a doctor is not an issue.

繚 No painful injections - When you use allergy drops, all that needs to be done is simply put a drop under the tongue. Hence, this is a good option for children who suffer from various allergies as they do not have to deal with the pain or fear associated with injections.

繚 Easy management of allergies - It is easier to remember to take your drops on a daily basis and the option is a great alternative to the management of allergies. Allergy drops help keep symptoms at bay and also increase comfort levels.

Are Allergy Drops a Good Option for You?

This treatment technique has been endorsed by the World Health Organization, which has claimed that it is a "viable alternative" to shot therapy. The Cochrane Review has discussed this technique favorably as well.

Most allergy sufferers can use allergy drops. However, this form of allergy treatment would especially benefit anyone who cannot tolerate or do not respond well to allergy shots. Even people who do not have the time for regular doctor visits for shots can consider drops. The severity and seasonality of your allergies will influence how quickly you respond to this form of treatment. You will need to take the drops each day for three to five years at least before all the symptoms subside for good. Also known as sublingual immunotherapy or SLIT - this simple treatment technique which requires you to use a few drops of antigen under the tongue is considered safe enough for everyone. These drops are administered in gradually increasing dosages until the patient develops a tolerance to the allergy triggers or allergy causing substances. Manage your allergies with this simple treatment option after consulting your physician and live an allergy-free life.

Useful Vitamin B12 Shot Suggestions You Need To Understand

Lots of men and women understand that Vitamin B12 is a core component of the Vitamin B complex. Nonetheless, it's not genuinely given enough exposure. Lots of vitamins are more well known than Vitamin B12 when actually, it may also give a great deal of health benefits.

Nevertheless, when you attain the age of 40, the tendency can be your body will not absorb the nutrient as efficiently the way it once did. Of course when this occurs, it makes the individual much more prone to developing Vitamin B12 deficiency. Don't fret however because there are still some things that you can do to support present you with the quantity of Vitamin B12 that you would want in a day.

Some choices are taking a regular Vitamin B12 pill, taking supplements, nasal spray, a patch, B12 shots, or as sublingual B12. There are some people who don't take in Vitamin B12 via their intestines. If this occurs, individuals say that the most effective option is to get Vitamin B12 by way of injection. However, recent studies have established this may not be entirely true.

Some advantages that you would get whenever you take get Vitamin B12 shots are the following: quick energy increase, more youthful looking skin, improved memory, greater sleep and feeling less stressed about life generally speaking. Folks who get Vitamin B12 injections typically notice a marked improvement in their energy level for a number of days. They only feel active and on the go.

Do keep in mind though that although obtaining Vitamin B12 shots may give a great deal of benefits; there are some disadvantages too. Very first and foremost, injections may cause nearly twenty five per b12 injection. What in case you would want it each and every day? Are you prepared to spend $150 a week for the shots? Also, a known unwanted effect is the chance for developing scar tissues. The negative impacts could also become much more severe and produce an infection wherein the nerves may be harmed. Other side effects that you may encounter whenever you take in shots are headaches, upset stomach, diarrhea and painful joints, to name several.

The main reason a great deal of men and women turn out to be deficient in Vitamin B12 is because it's the hardest nutrient to absorb. Folks who've got weak stomachs normally have problems with stomach or bowel motions. Individuals who've had surgery on their gastrointestinal tract may possibly also encounter some problems with getting enough Vitamin B12 due to the fact the body would stop producing a kind of protein known as intrinsic factor. It's more difficult for your body to make and absorb this as we get older which means that lots of older men and women get B12 injections.

Although taking Vitamin B12 pills can be an alternative, there's always a possibility they won't work as well as the additional options. This really is due to the fact that in case your body is already experiencing difficulty absorbing the vitamin then most likely, it will most likely not absorb the pill either. It becomes useless.

The very best way to take Vitamin B12 is sublingually. Therefore you would place the vitamin below your tongue and allow it to be absorbed by the membranes inside your mouth. These nutrients should go directly into your bloodstream. This is successful and inexpensive so go do it now.

Could You Be Suffering From Allergic Tension-Fatigue Syndrome?

As early as the 1930's it was theorized that constant or repeated exposure to an allergen put exhaustive stress on the body, including the immune system. Ultimately this exposure has a negative effect on the body's defenses and leaves it open to illness and other medical complications. In addition, these allergens can have a degenerative effect on energy levels which results in chronic fatigue and other more serious health problems. Under the Allergic Tension-Fatigue Syndrome theory if you remove the allergen you will relieve the not only the allergy symptoms but also the underlying medical conditions caused by the drain on energy levels.

While there can always be many potential causes for various illnesses or conditions, one of those causes may be undetected allergies. One of the most common causes for fatigue problems is allergies yet awareness of them may remain hidden for years. Removing the allergen may sound like a simple solution but what if you can't get away from the allergens? What if you can't even identify them?

To most people an allergic reaction implies you have breathed, eaten, or touched something that causes your body to sneeze, cough, itch, swell, make your eyes water and/or your nose run. But allergies can also be the root cause for a wide range of ailments including but not limited to:

>Gastrointestinal ailments such as indigestion, constipation, ulcers, etc.

>Headaches & migraines

>Backaches

>Arthritis, joint pain, restless leg syndrome, etc.

>Brain symptoms such as brain fog, depression & attention-deficit disorders

>Skin problems including rashes, boils, slow healing wounds, etc.

>Heart irregularities

Modern life assaults our bodies from without as well as within. We are exposed to chemicals in the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the food we eat.

Consider this. At the turn of the century bread making required only whole grains, water, butter, baker's yeast, and a little sweetener to help the yeast rise. Today a modern loaf of bread may contain more than 100 different ingredients, including preservatives, coloring agents, insecticides, pesticides, and fungicides, as well as chemical residue from various packaging and cleaning procedures. These can sensitize an immune system and cause us to react negatively to many other substances.

Our bodies are still biologically programmed to reside in a much simpler environment. Is it any wonder that the number of people complaining of allergic reactions has increased dramatically? At the same time traditional Western style medical schools and journals are broadening their definitions of allergies and recognizing that the immune system, when under a perceived attack, will respond in many different ways leading to the ailments mentioned above.

In the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Sept. 19, 2002 there was an article about findings published in the New England Journal of Medicine that counter decades of conventional thought regarding dust and allergies. Where it was always thought that dust causes allergies and therefore should be avoided, a European study has shown that household dust actually helps protect children from developing hay fever or asthma. The same has been found for children exposed to pets at an early age.

Conventional diagnosis has been to expose the body to small, concentrated doses of potential allergens by injecting the substance under the skin. The areas that show swelling and itching indicate an allergic reaction. Treatment usually consists of a long series of "allergy shots" over an extended period of time. Each shot contains minute amounts of the allergen and the theory is that the body will slowly build up a resistance.

Just as conventional thoughts about the cause and effects of allergies are being challenged and changed, so are treatments for allergies. Today there are several non-invasive, drug and needle free options for diagnosing and treating allergies that have provided relief for 10s of 1,000's of people. These techniques typically use a type of bio feedback mechanism to identify the allergen and then, in very simple, general terms, use a form of pressure point and breathing to reset the body so it does not react to the allergen. The most well known of these is NAET but there are numerous other non-invasive methods available.

If you suffer with chronic fatigue without a known cause you may want to explore the possibility that you are suffering from Allergic Tension-Fatigue Syndrome and work to discover whether or not you have "hidden" allergies.
