Allergy Drops

Allergy Drops Provide Alternative to Shots

Hate going to the allergist to receive those weekly shots? There is some good news for you! Today many allergists are looking into other alternative methods of treatment for their patients.

Allergy drops have been discovered to do the same thing that the shots have done in the past. The nice thing with the drops, you can do them yourself, at home. No more trips to the doctor.

Allergy shots consist of diluted versions of the allergen which you have a reaction to. Usually, this ration is about 100,000 to one. In some cases, however; ear, nose, and throat doctors have used dilution of a million to one. The allergens are then injected into the patient and they must wait about 30 minutes before they are allowed to leave.

In addition to the time off work and school on a weekly basis to get the shots, the waiting and returning consume a lot of the patient's time. The costs of the doctor visit on a weekly basis add up to a very high sum also.

The injections can be paid by insurance, but even with the benefit of insurance, the co-pay still can add up to a large amount rather quickly.

With the use of the allergy drops, the number of doctor visits decreases immensely. The most a patient would need to go to the doctor is now about 2-3 times a year. Once you have your prescription, you can now treat yourself, by placing the drops under your tongue.

In looking at the number of patients taking the allergy drops, there have been rare cases whereby the patient reacts to the drops as they reacted to the shots. The advantages outweigh the need to be in a doctor's office when receiving the allergen.

Most children will happily opt for the drops and it has been shown more people would rather take the drops on a regular basis as opposed to going for their weekly injections.
